Yoga Nidra, or yogic sleep, is a deep relaxation practice that helps relax the physical and emotional bodies so that healing can occur. The conscious mind subsides but awareness remains. It is said that one hour of yoga nidra is equivalent to 4 hours of regular sleep.

Yoga nidra helps us to truly relax. Many of the activities we traditionally use to relax, such as watching TV or taking a bath, are just distractions of the senses. Yoga nidra brings complete physical, emotional and mental relaxation.

The practice of yoga nidra takes you through a series of exercises meant to relax the body and mind. Lying comfortably on the earth or any comfortable surface, the mind stays conscious, you do not sleep, without concentrating too deeply on anything being said. The practice generally lasts twenty to forty minutes.
