Anything in Plank Pose works the core, in several different planes. Regular Plank, Upward Plank Pose, Side Plank Pose and all of its variations, and Handstand all target the rectus abdominis and transverse abdominis, and some variations target the obliques. Even though there is little to no movement in these poses, there is a constant contraction of the abs to hold the body in position. The longer you can hold these planks, the more resilient your lower back will be to any injury and the stronger your abs will be, not only for yoga poses but for the movements of everyday life!
