Align your yoga practice with the elemental energies of nature to balance your primary dosha for overall health, wellbeing, and natural beauty.
Nature is our teacher. We can learn a lot from watching the cycles of the sun and moon, listening to the sounds of nature, and tuning in to the effects they have on our energy. The more you are in harmony with nature and her rhythms and energies, the more positive effects you’ll see on your well-being and beauty.
One powerful way to align with nature is to realize that the five elements found around us—air, ether, fire, water, earth—are the same elements that compose our bodies and affect our personal energy. While we all contain all of the elements, we each have a primary dosha (take our dosha quiz to determine yours). Each dosha, made up of a mix of elements (for instance, kapha is a mix of earth and water), is known as a mind-body type and expresses particular patterns of physical, emotional and mental energy.
Adjusting your dietary and lifestyle patterns, including your yoga practice, to your primary dosha will help balance the elements and therefore your energy, helping you achieve Radical Beauty. Radical Beauty, which we define as your highest and most authentic potential for natural beauty, extends beyond the physical, encompassing all parts of your inner and outer being. It is something that exists universally, and, at the same time, it is completely unique to you. Not trying to be something you’re not, but peacefully and powerfully being you. It nurtures and highlights your magnetism and confidence, vitality, and overall health, from your inner bodily tissues to the outer, visible parts of yourself such as your skin and hair, and gives you more power to feel more supported in everything you do.
Whether you are predominantly Vata, Pitta, or Kapha, take your practice to a deeper level by customizing it to balance your individual energy with the following sequences.
An Earthy Sequence to Ground Vata Energy
Balancing the air and ether of your Vata dosha with the opposing energy of the earth element can help ease Vata’s anxiety, nervousness, fatigue, and digestive issues.
A Fire-Moving Yoga Practice to Balance Pitta Energy
Move built-up fire energy from the belly through the rest of the body to balance the Pitta dosha and combat its tendencies for competition and overheating.
An Airy Asana Sequence to Balance Kapha Energy
Boost energy flow in the body with this dynamic practice, representing the air element to counterbalance Kapha’s earthy and watery nature.
