With the Autumnal Equinox behind us, fall is now in full swing. This season is an invitation to slow down, take note of what our bodies and minds need, and change our practices to meet those requests. The vata dosha is dominant in the fall season, bringing qualities such as light, dry, rough, windy, and cool—a welcome transition after a long, hot summer. Embrace all the changes autumn brings with these practices that urge you to fall into stillness, find balance, and prepare you for the cooler days ahead.

Five 30-minute autumnal yoga practices

A Cozy Yin Yoga Practice

Surrender and letting go are key themes in this practice. Embrace the stillness to tune in to the natural world around you. Yoga with Carolynne guides you through this transition, emphasizing softness and slowing down by providing three poses held for upwards of five minutes at a time.

A Gentle Restorative Practice

Caren Baginski uses props and mindful movement for warmth and calm to balance the vata dosha. Through only five poses with ample modifications, rest is at the forefront of the practice. Feel your body rejuvenate as you sink deeper into every pose.

A Practice of Transformation

The fall brings shorter days, but Yoga with Kristen helps you make peace with that change, balancing the darker evenings with the radiating light inside you. Balance is key to this practice, making it very grounding and centering through this time of transition.

Equal Challenge and Rest

Another balancing sequencing, Dr. Tara Salay brings a more upbeat flow with some standing and twisting poses. This practice is a celebration, honoring the equal hours of light and darkness on the equinox while energizing you for all of the transitions ahead. As an intermediate vinyasa flow, it gets the blood pumping but just as quickly mellows you out.

Vinyasa for the Fall

As the most active practice in this list, Pure Serenity Yoga guides you through a sequence that opens up your body, inviting all the changes that will come. Masculine and feminine energies are balanced, making space for the creativity and stillness of the season.
