Sri Swami Satchidananda’s contributions to Western yoga were pretty major: He founded Integral Yoga, wrote many books, and founded a yoga center in Virginia, and is remembered as an interfaith pioneer. He was even at Woodstock!
On Saturday, what would have been Satchidananda’s 100th birthday will be an epic event in New York City, featuring kirtan giants like Krishna Das, Guru Ganesha Singh, Kirtan Rabbi, CC White, and others of various faith paths, and will even include the Islamic Call to Prayer. This Interfaith Kirtan for World Peace is part of a yearlong celebration of Satchidananda’s vision and widely shared motto: “Truth is one, paths are many.”
