Yoga is a complex and multifaceted practice. It usually takes more than just a couple of classes for a new student to see the whole picture and the myriad of benefits that are possible from yoga. The same can be true for trying a new yoga studio. It can take a few classes to figure out what the studio is all about and decide if it’s a good fit for you.
If you’re new to yoga or in the market for a new place to practice National Yoga Month, which is September, can be a great opportunity to try something new. The Yoga Health Foundation, the folks behind Yoga Month, are offering a week of free yoga for new students at participating studios.
“New students usually commit more if they have a free week and try to practice at least a few times during that week,” said Johannes R. Fisslinger, co-founder of National Yoga Month. “And most people feel the difference for body and mind.”
More than 2,000 studios are involved this year up from 1,600 last year, and organizers expect a record 40,000-50,000 downloads of the free yoga week pass. The increase is most likely due to the new ambassador program that asks leaders from each community to help get the word out, said Fisslinger.
To get your free pass, you have to register at www.yogahealthfoundation.org/oneweekfreeyoga, print your pass, and present it at the studio between Sept. 1 and Oct. 30.
