Founder and Executive Director, Niroga Institute
San Francisco, California
Bidyut Bose learned yoga and meditation from his father during his childhood, and then with monks in the Himalayas. After earning a Ph.D. in Computer Science at UC Berkeley, he spent years in research and development in Silicon Valley, but longed for a way to align and integrate his personal and professional interests.
In 2005, he founded the Niroga Institute, a California-registered nonprofit that is changing the face and ZIP code of yoga. Niroga serves thousands of children, youth, and adults every week, in schools and alternative schools, juvenile halls and jails, cancer hospitals and rehab centers, homeless shelters, and senior centers throughout the Bay Area.
A teacher’s teacher, Bidyut has been training yoga teachers and yoga therapists for many years. He also conducts national and international trainings for leaders in education, health care, violence prevention, and youth development. His current research interests include the development of cost-effective architectures for lasting social transformation.
