Jennifer Cohen Harper
Founder and Director, Little Flower Yoga
New York City, New York
After nearly a decade of practicing yoga, Jennifer Cohen Harper began to use yoga in her kindergarten classroom and found so much success that other teachers and administrators asked for yoga programs of their own. That eventually led her to found Little Flower Yoga in 2006.
Just as Jennifer discovered that her own yoga practice gave her a stronger sense of confidence, inner strength, and ability to face new challenges, Little Flower Yoga aims to help children navigate physical, mental, and emotional barriers to learning; teaches them to make healthy choices; and offers them a space to experience joy. The organization now directly serves more than 1,800 children per week in New York City and Westchester County, N.Y., schools, and many more through a worldwide network of trained teachers and school consultations.
Jennifer, who is vice president of the Yoga Service Council and author of the book Little Flower Yoga for Kids: A Yoga and Mindfulness Program to Help your Child Improve Attention and Emotional Balance, also leads the Little Flower teacher training, and provides professional development for educators and mental health care providers. She frequently collaborates with other organizations to bring yoga and mindfulness to children in challenging circumstances, from domestic violence shelters in New York City to tent cities in Haiti.
