Suzanne Manafort

Founder and Director, Mindful Yoga Therapy for Veterans and Newington Yoga Center
Newington, Connecticut

While volunteering in 2007 in a Veterans Administration program that taught yoga to veterans to help them manage post-traumatic stress disorder, Suzanne Manafort realized that the men and women veterans needed additional practices.
So in 2010 she co-founded Mindful Yoga Therapy for Veterans, which trains yoga therapists nationwide to effectively use yoga to help veterans. Currently, 17,000 veterans have received her Practice Guide, and 49 V.A. hospitals nationwide use her programs, in which veterans are encouraged to be their authentic selves and do just what they are comfortable with, using postures that keep them feeling safe. Suzanne herself works with PTSD victims in a local Residential Rehabilitation program for PTSD, and she teaches classes to women with PTSD at a Connecticut V.A. hospital.

Suzanne is also co-author of the book Mindful Yoga Therapy for Veterans and the creator of two CDs, Yoga Nidra by Suzanne Manafort and Breathe In, Breathe Out, a group of short breathing practices designed for veterans with PTSD. She also serves on the board of directors of the Give Back Yoga Foundation.
