“I’ve been doing yoga for about two years now and I’d have to say the most
noticeable aspect of yoga that I have integrated into my life is
awareness/consciousness. Awareness and consciousness during postures of
breath and motion has carried over to awareness during the day. What am I
saying? What am I doing? What kind of an effect is my action having on my
environment? Does what I am doing support what I want out of life? This
can be very profound and sobering and ultimately goes back to taking
responsibility for your life and for your actions.”

According to my teacher, you learn patience in life
through yoga by practicing forward bends. My wife and
I often joke about my lack of patience. So when I
started practicing yoga, forward bends were, and
continue to be, one of my most challenging practices.

True to my teacher’s words of wisdom, as I have become
more practiced at forward bends in yoga, I have
noticed more patience in my life. From allowing my
kids the time to explore their current task before
jumping in to help them “do it right”, to not flying
off the handle at every traffic injustice, to leaving
unfinished work on my desk at the end of the day, I
can correlate my increasing abilities in forward bends
to my patience in life’s everyday tasks.
