For many of us, the idea of sitting on a meditation cushion for hours on end seems both improbable and impossible. Taking on a devoted practice not only requires dedication of heart, but commitment of time, and while one might be available at any given moment, the other tends to fall short. In our busy lives, taking on a committed practice of self-care often takes the back seat, but when we reimagine wellness practices as simple and small, they’re more likely to stick. The theory behind presence is that it’s not relegated to our moments of purity; rather, we practice breath meditation so that we can come back to the sensation of presence at all times.

In this meditation with Lodro Rinzler, a meditation teacher and advisor for Sonima.com, we’re given the opportunity to practice on the go. While we’re waiting for a subway, in line at the grocery store, or for our kids to get let out of school, we can meditate, we can feel alive. We don’t need a cushion or a fancy yoga studio to help us meditate: we have all the tools we need on us at all times. Rinzler helps us to understand that through shifting our focus and awareness in the mundane moments, we can see everything as an opportunity for transformation and for growth.
