This slender volume offers a rare up-close and personal encounter with a contemporary spiritual teacher. The journey of the woman born Toni Roberson in 1942, who became Gangaji after studying with her guru, H.W.L. Poonja (a.k.a. Papaji), unfolds here in a series of dialogues. Her student Roslyn Moore, the editor of Meeting Papaji (DO Publishing, 1999), asks thoughtful questions and then gets out of the way. Gangaji is strikingly candid about her life as a child, mother, seeker, and devotee of Papaji (himself a disciple of Ramana Maharshi), and engagingly unaffected in her discussion of her work and relationship to her students. Moore is a capable surrogate for the reader, which makes Just Like You of interest and value not only to Gangaji devotees but also to those who would merely like to know more about this increasingly popular teacher.
