Films that celebrate the practice of yoga have found their way onto the film festival circuit in addition to private releases in the past few years. This year, three films explore the spiritual, healing, life-altering benefits of yoga. Grab a healthy snack and a few friends and enjoy learning more about the practice you love by watching these new films.

Yoga Is: A Transformational Journey. After she lost her mother to cancer, filmmaker Suzanne Bryant travels to India to study yoga, Ayurveda, and Bhakti looking for answers. Upon her return, she decides to dig deeper and see how yoga is transforming lives in the United States. She meets with some of the most prominent yoga teachers in the West such as Sharon Gannon and Dharma Mittra as well as celebrity yogis Christy Turlington, Russell Simmons, and musician-yogi Michale Franti, and more. This film examines the healthcare system in American and attempts to answer questions about the big business of approaching medicine with profit-driven high tech surgeries and medications instead of preventing them. One Track Heart: The Story of Krishna Das. What you don’t know about Krishna Das might surprise you—chanting helped the popular kirtan artist overcome depression and a cocaine addiction. One Track Heart, a documentary tells how an unlikely teenager named Jeff Kagel became Krishna Das, a spiritual leader and the voice heard in practically every yoga studio in America today.
