Not to ruin things for you, but do not be surprised when you glance up at the pink Moon this April and find that she is her usual luminous yet colorless self. Still, as the days turn longer each spring, the April full Moon is a reassuring reminder that no matter how dark things become, the light always returns.

What is a Pink Moon?

The name pink Moon originated with indigenous cultures in the eastern United States. The term refers to the first full Moon of the year that follows the spring equinox. Curiously, the term has nothing to do with the appearance of that particular Moon. Rather it has everything to do with the vibrant pink flowers, known as wild ground phlox (Phlox subulata), that tend to blossom in abundance beneath it.

When is the Pink Moon 2025?

The upcoming pink Moon will take place on April 12, 2025.

What is the Pink Moon Meaning?

According to astrology, the illumination of the full Moon casts its awareness on whatever shadows exist in our dark corners and could use some attention. It is the most aligned time to bring attention to behaviors, thoughts, patterns, and situations that no longer serve you and release whatever is holding you back in your old life to make space for what you’ve been wanting to witness in your current life.

That significance takes on even more meaning during the pink Moon. Its role as the initial full Moon following the spring equinox makes it the determinant for the timing of the holiest days across cultures and belief systems. In the Hindu culture, the pink Moon marks Hanuman Jayanti, or the celebration of the birth of Lord Hanuman. Passover begins with the pink Moon, or the Pesach Moon. In Sri Lankan Buddhism, the April full Moon marks Bak Poya, a commemoration of one of the Buddha’s treks to the country. It’s a moment that has, for centuries, been known as a harbinger of renewal, of change, of better times.

In contrast, contemporary culture rarely mentions a pink Moon, save for the lyrical musings of certain songwriters, including the late Nick Drake.

What You Need to Know About The Pink Moon in April 2025

The upcoming pink Moon falls in Libra, a sign that tends to be preoccupied (some might say obsessed) with balance. Ruled by Venus, Libra is dedicated to beauty, comfort, and agreeableness. It seeks equilibrium with unrelenting tenacity in all aspects of life.

That’s the upside of Libra. A downside of this fairness-seeking tendency is that as it constantly weighs what is in balance, it evaluates all possible considerations. This prolonged debate means a conclusion may never happen—although they will be unlikely to acknowledge that, whether to themselves or others. They also won’t confess to the mental machinations taking place behind the scenes. They see only the sweet and affable face Libra puts forward.

Under the pink Moon, it’s safe to let others understand the depths of your desire for fairness and social justice. It’s also okay for you to acknowledge and revel in what may be going well in your life even though there are aspects of our world that remain unjust.
