The great summer Sunday debate: head outdoors for some fresh air or round off the weekend with a yoga class? In Central New Jersey’s Holmdel Park, you can do both.
After most July 4th BBQs and fireworks come to an end, Gabriella Meiterman, a bright-spirited local yogi and wellness blogger, will lead a 45-minute hike of the park’s lush greenways followed by a 45-minute Vinyasa flow on the grass. Meiterman, who is also a SUP (standup paddleboard) yoga teacher, says she pulls her practice outside as much as possible, “There’s no mirror to critique yourself,” she says. “You get to remove the four walls of the studio and enjoy the sun.”
The yoga class is by donation only, with all proceeds going to charity. The hike portion passes under an archway of trees, around a lake, and over a hill with patch of wild raspberries. Meiterman hopes her summer yoga hikes, which take place on select Sundays throughout the rest of the summer, will raise about $1,000 to help Boston Marathon amputees. If you plan to attend, wear comfortable shoes and bring a mat and a towel to slide underneath it. If there is a 60 percent chance of rain, the event will be cancelled.
