The scandal surrounding Bikram yoga founder Bikram Choudhury’s legal woes is a lot bigger than the yoga blogosphere. In its new issue, Vanity Fair, takes an in-depth look at lawsuits brought against Choudhury in the last year by five women accusing him of multiple instances of rape or sexual harassment.

In addition to allegations by students Sarah Baughn, who accused Choudhury of sexual harassment, and two Jane Does, who alleged Choudhury raped them, Vanity Fair contributor Benjamin Wallace spoke to a another Bikram student, Larissa Anderson, who brought a lawsuit against the guru alleging rape. The article also details a suit filed by Choudhury’s former in-house counsel, Minakshi Jafa-Bodden, who alleged “discrimination, sexual harassment, and defamation.”

While a handful of Bikram studios (including Anderson’s) have removed the Bikram name from their businesses, Bikram Yoga continues to be one of the most popular styles of yoga.

The January issue of Vanity Fair is available now in New York and Los Angeles (and for digital download) and will be on newsstands nationwide December 10.
